How to create slidebooks

Slidebooks can only be created within a project.

There's no limit to the number of slidebooks you can create.

When you create a new slidebook, you'll go through our 'Automagical' wizard.

If you choose to use one of the styles, Automagical will add backgrounds to your pages, borders to your bites, and then lay everything out for you.

If you'd prefer to build up the slidebook from scratch, you can choose the Blank style.

Once Automagical has created your slidebook, you can tweak it until your heart's content.

How to add bites to a slidebook

Slidebooks are undoubtedly awesome but it's the bites that really bring them to life. 'Bites' is the word we use to describe photos, videos, and text that you add to your slidebooks.

You can upload bites from your computer and coming soon you'll be able to use the Biteslideper to grab them from around the web. And if enabled for your project, you can add bites straight to your slidebook from Google Images and Youtube.

To add bites to your slidebook, simply drag and drop them on to a page. Once on the slidebook, you can resize, rotate, order, and set a clip as the page background.

If you want to show off to your friends, you can even drag a clip between pages and straight from the dock on to another page in the page bar - how snazzy is that?

How to save your slidebook

It's easy peasey - you don't have to do anything, your slidebooks will save themselves! Every 30 seconds your slidebook will automatically save all the changes that you've made.

Don't worry if you try to close your slidebook with unsaved changes, you'll be prompted to save them before you close.

How to add backgrounds, borders, and stickers

Backgrounds, borders, and stickers will really spice up your slidebook and add extra personality.

Backgrounds fill the entire page, borders frame individual bites, and stickers are dabs of fun to be placed anywhere you like.

You'll find them all in the Extras tab of the slidebook.

How to print slidebooks

So you're ready to print the masterpiece. It couldn't be easier.

Just click the Print button on any slidebook page, et voila – your creation in paper and ink.

How to download slidebooks

Say you want to create a screensaver, email a page, or use a page in another application. Downloading is the answer.

Click on the Download button on any slidebook page and it will be downloaded to your computer as an image.

How to embed slidebooks

Biteslide is a walled garden which means it's safe and sound for your students which is great. But sometimes you want to share slidebooks on websites and blogs - that's where embedding comes in.

Embedding is disabled by default so the first thing we'll need to do is enable it for our project. Go to your project page, click Project settings, and then enable embedding and Save. Now, on every slidebook in the project you'll see an Embed button. Click the Embed button to choose the size of your embedded slidebook, and then copy and paste the HTML code into your website or blog. Done.

How to manage classes

Classes are how you organise your students.

Once you've created a class, you'll need to add students to it. See below for the different ways you can add students to a class.

You can add and remove students from a class at any time and there's no limit to the number of classes you can create.

How to manage student accounts

There are two ways to add students to a class.

The easiest way is student self-registration. Give your students the class code (located on the class page) and then ask them to go to Biteslide where they'll find a link to student self-registration on the home page. Self-registration is easy and will only take a minute.

If you need to close self-registration for a particular class, you can set it to closed in the class settings.

The other way is to add students individually.

On the class page click the add student button and enter the student details. Give the student their username and password and they'll be able to log in straight away.

How to manage projects

Projects are assigned to classes and are where slidebooks are created.

An example project could be 'A school trip diary' or 'My academic portfolio'. There's no limit to the number of projects you can create.

To create a project, you'll first need a class. From the class page, click Create Project. Once the project is created, you can edit its title and description. You might want to add an instructional slidebook to the project.

When you're ready for students to access the project, you need to publish it. Once published, all the students in the class will see the project in their dashboard and can add slidebooks.

You can add and remove slidebook features for any project.

Currently there are 4 features you can enable or disable for a project. These are Google Images, Youtube Videos, Flickr photos, and slidebook commenting. Changing these settings will only apply to the current project.
